Every year, Friendship Sports International brings college students and young adults to Honduras — and every trip is filled with moments that change everything. Not just for the communities being served, but for everyone who goes. On those trips, you meet young Honduran's through the Inspirata Foundation. Young leaders who are pursuing Jesus with everything they have, over coming major obstacles, and refusing to let their circumstances define their future. Sofía Castillo is one of those people.
Meet Sofia Castillo
Sofia is a 17-year-old student in her first semester at the National
Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), studying Electrical
Engineering.
She is a very intelligent, diligent, and helpful young woman. She loves to
read, having read approximately 200 books, and possesses a wealth of
knowledge. She is quite curious, introverted, and communicates very well.
She enjoys swimming since childhood and currently considers it her main
sport, as she also practices boxing. She assists her swimming instructor in
class, as she is one of the best and is being considered to represent the
university's swimming team.
Her GPA is 95.7%
But in Honduras, talent and drive alone are rarely enough. In Honduras , the finanical challenges of many seem insurmountable. For students from modest backgrounds, staying in university requires far more than hard work it requires a community willing to stand behind them. Financial barriers derail brilliant young people every year, not because they lack what it takes, but because they lack the support and resources to keep going.
