GR Airport Steps
  • When you arrive at the Grand Rapids airport, stay together as a group and go directly to the United Airlines desk.
  • Elaine has the confirmation information and will provide it when needed. United may call you to the desk or to a kiosk one person at a time by name. When your name is called, step forward and show your passport.
  • United will check you in, print your boarding passes for both flights, and check any luggage. Elaine or Steve will take care of paying for checked bags.
  • After everyone is checked in, go through security together and then head to your gate/terminal.
  • This should be pretty straightforward. Take your time, pay attention, listen for instructions, and stay with the group.

In HOUSTON- Take the tram to your new gate, you won't have a ton of time. At your gate you will meet Martin and Raquel who will fly in with you. They are from Dewitt, their aunt is Mimi, the hotel owner. They will be your translators and guides the rest of the way for the week along with Mimi and Liz, there aunt and mom who will meet you at the airport!

Arrival Steps in Honduras
  • After landing in Honduras, you will get off the plane and walk down the hallway. Before heading to immigration, gather near the bathrooms for a quick restroom break. Once everyone is together, follow the crowd toward immigration.
  • Get in line and wait until you are called to the desk. At immigration, they will stamp your passport and may ask you a few questions while they type your information.
  • Possible questions and answers:
  • Where are you going? Tegucigalpa. We are on a mission trip serving at the International School of Tegucigalpa.
  • Where will you be staying? Humuya Inn.
  • How long will you be here? Until the 25th. I am traveling with my university team from the United States.
  • They may also ask you to look into a camera and provide fingerprints. After that, they will hand your passport back to you.
  • Once you are through immigration, exit to the right and continue down the hallway through the airport store area. Then turn right and proceed to the customs desk.
  • At customs, show the customs QR code from the photos on your phone. After customs, continue to baggage claim and gather your luggage.
Follow your leaders and stay together. Each person who checked a bag should have their baggage ticket ready. Airport staff may let the group go through together, or they may choose to check some bags individually. Either way, be patient, pay attention, and stay with the group.

Once outside the HUMUYA INN staff will be looking for you! They will load your luggage into one van and you all likely into 2 others. Follow their lead.  Its about a 1 hour drive to the Humuya, enjoy!
When you get to the hotel, you will give your passports to the front desk. They will keep them for the week for you in a safe! They will give you keys and assign rooms and bring all your luggage in for you! Once settled in you rooms, you will meet in the coffee bar for orientation!
