PACK THE HOUSE 2023

Hello everyone,

I am excited to invite you to the second annual Friendship Sports "Pack the House" events at Cornerstone on November 29 and December 3. Last year was a big success as we packed over 13000 meals for refugees in Ukraine and created a fun, high-energy event with the campus community and area churches. Our goals are just as ambitious as we strive to raise $15000 to pack 60,000 meals for the Philippines through the wonderful organization IDES. This organization works with missionaries worldwide, dealing with refugees caused by war, famine, and natural disasters, to share the gospel while meeting physical needs.

We want to engage the Cornerstone campus and the greater CU community by first inviting everyone to the November 29 Men's and Women's double-header basketball "Pack the House" night. Bob Wells, the on-field host of the West Michigan Whitecaps, again will be here to lead fan engagement throughout both games with fun-filled competition activities, T-shirt sales, and more will be happening at the games on the 29th, all to bring together the CU community while raising awareness and funds for the food pack that will take place the following Sunday afternoon in the Hanson Center.

We need your help! Please spread the word! Invite your teams, schools, coworkers, and groups here at CU. The students will be out in full force at the game and the pack, and we would love to use these events to bring the entire CU family together in a fun way for a cause! Bring your families. Invite your friends and church family!  There are many ways to get groups to get involved. The information below has been sent to numerous Grand Rapids churches, businesses, and organizations to invite/engage them to be involved with our CU “Pack the House” event. Please share that info with your churches, small groups, co-workers, and anyone we might want to engage with at this CU event. This will help us "Pack the Gym" and "Pack those meals" as well!

Can’t come, You can donate. One meal is 25 cents. You can donate online at the button below or via Venmo. Are you a CU student, alumni, faculty, or staff? The dorms are having a “Venmo Change Competition,” so donating via Venmo and naming a dorm will go towards the student dorm challenge. Every amount contributed matters!

We would love to see you all at the game, sponsor some meals, come back to pack meals, or even do all three! We will are selling T-shirts soon outside the cafeteria for 10$ and 5$ to wear to the game. One 10$ shirt will pack 40 meals.

Lastly, much of what we do to develop, prepare, market, and plan for Pack the House is student-led. Senior Kelsey Richards is the student leader on this year's project with Friendship Sports, and we are working with CU athletics as well as Professor Scott Huckaby, who uses this for an experiential learning opportunity within his Sports Events class to help plan and organize many of the details.
