FSI Michigan Fall/Spring 2022 Updates

Yellowstone Discipleship/Vision Trip 2022

We are excited about our second annual FSI leadership trip to Cody Wyoming! This year Alissa and I, along with Jim and Jenny King, will welcome 17 student athletes, coaches and administration from Cornerstone Athletics to Yellowstone country. We will be enjoying the wilderness and nature through hiking, rafting, and more. During our time we will also engage in teaching and discussion times with the purpose of discipleship and leadership development. We will discuss topics such as character, authenticity, achievement, vision, community, dealing with limitations, and influencing culture. There is lots of planning and fundraising going into this trip, as well as investing in our leaders pre and post trip. We are excited about the opportunity to invest in future leaders and influencers for Christ.

Alec Papale - Student Assistant/Ministry Coordinator I want to Introduce a recent intern and now the assistant ministry coordinator with FSI Michigan, Alec Papale. Alec is currently a junior at Cornerstone studying ministry and business. Alec grew up in Deerfield, Illinois, loves hockey, basketball, and the outdoors. Alec loves to share the Gospel and his faith with others. He is working with us to develop and expand fundraising and ministry opportunities in the Grand Rapids area, and help coordinate our intern team and projects they develop. He will also be working with Matt to develop the devotional for the Yellowstone trip. Alec wants to grow in his faith, his abilities, and his experience. I am grateful to have the opportunity to have Alec a part of our team.

CU Women’s Basketball Team Vision Trip to Hands of Grace in Antigua Guatemala

Finally, as we have navigated very little international travel during covid, a team from Cornerstone is in the works to partner with Hands of Grace in Guatemala. We are working with the Cornerstone Women’s Basketball team to develop a trip in mid-August. While there they will learn and experience culture, service, and ministry with Hands of Grace, ministry partners with FSI. Plans to assist Hands of Grace with community outreach at their new medical clinic site are a big part of this trip. More information will be coming about this trip in late spring and early summer.

Heart Path - In January we launched our weekly subscribable devotional, Heart Path. Each week now over 50 people engage in our devotional. Some as individuals, and some as small groups and sports teams. To subscribe and learn more, click the purple button below.

Spring Ministry and Community Building around Cornerstone University

This spring FSI has two student interns, Kyle Barba and Jeff Spees. They are working on an event to build relationships with CU students, and fundraise for FSI and Matthews House Ministry (which serves the homeless population of Grand Rapids). They will also be working with Alec Papale to develop a ministry project with CU student-athletes serving and sharing Christ with kids through sports in late spring. More information will be coming on this later.

Between Elijah Wallace’s photo and video skills, as well as Gabe Wallace’s video production, we have been able to capture our mission through photos and videos. Check out some of their work to learn more about FSI…
